Westin Hotel KL Buffet Breakfast (with Video)

The Westin Hotel buffet breakfast in Kuala Lumpur

Last visited June 2023

The Westin Hotel is one of the most prestigious hotels in KL, perched in the middle of the upmarket area around the Pavillion Mall in Bukit Bintang.

But is the buffet breakfast worth it?

In short, the breakfast is amazing, if a bit on the expensive side. It’s an all-you-can-eat extravaganza of just about everything you might expect, and a couple of things that you might not expect.

But, you might be surprised to hear that I’m going to stop short of recommending that you go there unreservedly because there are plenty of great options nearby.

Let’s dive into the details.

Price

Ok let’s get straight to my main concern with this buffet compared to other great 5-star hotel breakfasts in the same area.

It’s considerably more expensive.

I went in April of 2023 and it was 95rm net, which is already more than nearby options.

But just two months later in June of 2023, the price had increased to 108rm net per person.

Is the breakfast great?

Sure.

But is it better than comparable places nearby?

I’m not sure if that’s true.

Food options

As you would expect for a 5-star hotel with this price tag attached to its breakfast, the food is very good.

But rather than focus on what was great (which was almost everything), I’ll highlight a couple of things that I thought could have been better:

  • If you love dim sum, you’ll probably be disappointed
  • There is no barista-made coffee, it’s from a self-serve machine only

Ok now that’s out of the way, let me just say that overall, the food is divine. There’s a plethora of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Western options.

Come hungry and you won’t be disappointed.

Opening Hours

The buffet breakfast starts at 6:30am and runs until 10:30am. It’s usually busiest from 9am until closing, so plan accordingly if you prefer to eat when it’s not so busy.

Review

I give the buffet breakfast at the Westin in KL an 8 out of 10. The food is magnificent, the atmosphere is nice, and the staff are pleasant, but the price leaves me wondering if it’s really the best option in the area.

Hey, if you’re staying at the Westin, definitely try it. It’s fantastic.

If you live in KL or if you happen to be spending a decent amount of time in KL, give it a try, along with some of the other 5-star hotel breakfasts nearby.

But, if you’re only in KL for a short time and if you’re mindful of how much you’re spending, you might consider some of the other hotels nearby.

The Marriott and the Ritz Carlton are in the same area and both are more affordable than the Westin for breakfast.

Location

The Westin is conveniently located across the road from Pavillion Bukit Bintang.

It’s about a 5-minute walk from the Bukit Bintang Monorail or MRT stop. If you’re walking from the MRT, Monorail or Pavillion, the Westin will be on the right hand side as you walk down the road.

It’s really centrally located, with plenty to see and do all around.

Conclusion

The breakfast at the Westin in Kuala Lumpur is really nice. The food options are great, the quality is what you would expect and it’s just a really pleasant experience overall.

My main concern and the only reason I would consider NOT returning is the price.

In my opinion, it isn’t worth the extra money when there are very similar buffet breakfast options a short walk away.
